The Republic uses an army of clone troopers, the namesake of the conflict, led by the Jedi Order against the Separatist battle droid army. Within the Star Wars narrative, the Clone Wars involve a three-year war fought to prevent thousands of planetary systems from seceding from the Galactic Republic and forming the "Confederacy of Independent Systems", often referred to as "the Separatists". They have featured in numerous Star Wars books and games. The Clone Wars are also the setting for three eponymous projects: a 2D animated series (2003–2005), a CGI film (2008), and a 3D CGI series (2008–2014, 2020). Though mentioned briefly in the first Star Wars film ( A New Hope, 1977), the war itself was not depicted until Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith (2005). In a desperate attempt to destroy the Jedi, Lord Kaan created and detonated a Thought Bomb that destroyed nearly all the Force-sensitive life on the planet Ruusan. It was only discovered thousands of years later by Darth Bane, who then passed it on to Lord Kaan, leader of The Brotherhood of Darkness. Revan then hid the holocron in a forgotten temple in the planet Lehon. This ancient story was rediscovered during the events of the Jedi civil war by Darth Revan, who recorded everything about it in his Sith holocron. The Thought Bomb was first used by the Dark Lord Vitiate, who used it to consume an entire world. The detonation of a Thought Bomb was able to not only annihilate any Force sensitive being, but also to absorb its soul into a vortex of perpetual torment.
The Thought Bomb is the result of an ancient Sith ritual that put the entire power of the dark side to use.
