I believe this is a perfect send-off to an incredible franchise and is probably one of the best examples of a sequel, it just could never reach the heights of the first game sadly. Call of Pripyat just seems a bit too streamlined and before you knew it I was sort of glad the series was over, not because of anything bad but because I've had my fix and wasn't starving for more like when I finished Shadow of Chernobyl or Clear Sky. Shadow of Chernobyl is incredibly immersive and downright perfect in its balance of functionality and charming jank. All of this leads to a game that while technically is more stable that Shadow of Chernobyl, doesn't quite reach the same levels naivety and discovery of Shadow of Chernobyl which really sepereate the two games for me. The atmosphere in the game is retained and the graphics have improved quite a bit from previous installments. The map has been split up into three distinct areas that require a guide to reach them during gameplay which leads to each area having more a less a "home base" were there are traders, mechanics, and quest givers. They are now quest rewards as well as just collectibles as you won't get all of them as rewards. Artifacts and anomalies are more fleshed out as well as the stash system which has been revamped again.
This means that the story is much more focused and directly explained to the player with a monologue rather than a cinematic and in-game dialogue, the quest system within the game is also much more narrative focused and the number of quests are fewer in quantity but have a lot more depth to them.
From the very first moments of the game and throughout until the end you can tell that the release and success of Fallout 3 had inspired the developers of Call of Pripyat and the influence is not nearly as awful as it sounds. All of this comes with a lack of jank in my sights or at least a substantial decrease in obscurity and unfamiliarity that Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky had to me. It has been a great sandbox for mod creators and has tons of replayability considering that it is also the shortest of the trilogy. Call of Pripyat is by all means the most functional and accessible S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
